Hopefully by now you have found the new site. Students have received corrected WU29-32 over the past several weeks. They also received their AN WU Quiz grade packet, so ask to see that as well. The term closes on 1/16, so encourage your child to see me about any missing work. Missing work reports went home last Friday.

12/6/17

Over the past week or so, students have received back their corrected WU26, WU27, & WU28. They should be starting their preparation for next week's AN Unit test. Using the warm ups and the references they have are a great place to begin their review.

10/5/17
Corrected WU6 & WU7 were returned today.

10/2/17
At Back to School Night I mentioned that the first progress reports were going home last Friday. This was the case. However, due to being given the option of switching back to our original grading system due to functionality and training issues with the District's grading system, we were given the option by Dr. Carter to distribute them on the 29th or the 6th. Progress Reports for this Cluster will go home on the 6th.

In addition, on Friday the 29th, your child received the following graded items:
WU2, WU3, WU4. They already had WU1. These items are in the
warm up section of the binder and should remain there.

9/27/17
Ahhhh...technology. Of course the day after I show my site to all the wonderful parents and guardians that came to last night's Back to School Night, the service provider had a major issue. The site was down for most of the day and came back online after I left for the day. However, the homework links were posted on the Cluster 3 Homework Page. If the site is ever down in the future, this is the back up plan. If you have not yet done so, it is a good idea to bookmark the Cluster 3 Homework page so you have it anyway. You can find all homework listed in one place there.

It is 7:44 pm, and I just checked in and will now post the links on the site as well.

Here is the email sent to me from TeacherWeb:

Hi Jane,

Thanks for your patience with the service outage today. Just wanted to let you know that service has been restored, and the data center which hosts our servers believes that this problem has been corrected.

Our tech staff is still looking into this on the backend to ensure that there will be no further problems, so we are still waiting for an official confirmation of the full fix. However, I wanted to let you know that service is accessible and the site is now back online available for use.

Please let us know if you have any further questions, and we'll be glad to help.
Sincerely,
Eric, TeacherWeb® Staff

1/6/17
A Math Progress Report requiring a parent/guardian signature was sent home today. It is due back on Monday. However, due to the MFA field trip, some students may forget to give it to me. No worries, they can hand it in on Tuesday. However, if I do not have it Tuesday, the student will be required to stay after school each day until it is received.

Corrected SS Problem 2.2 Hats Take Home Quiz was returned today.

1/5/17
Forgot to post on Monday that corrected AN Unit tests were given to students. This score was included on the bi-weekly report sent home on December 23rd. Therefore, students knew their score well before receiving the corrected exam. This is with the exception of about 8 students in one class whose score I neglected to enter into my
gradebook in error before printing the reports.

12/23/16
Bi-Weekly Progress Reports were sent home today. They include the AN Unit Test score. Unfortunately, I neglected to enter grades for a handful of students in my A6B2 class before printing the reports. If your child is missing his or her score on the report, please email if needed. The actual test will be returned and reviewed when we return. Have a wonderful break.

12/9/16
To allow for
inclusion of today's Math Check Up 2 Quiz and an additional Humanities assessment score, Cluster 3 will be sending home progress reports on Monday, 12/12/16. Because of this, I will not be sending home a math bi-weekly report today. It will go home on Monday.

12/5/16
Beginning today and throughout the month, the district will be participating the annual Hour of Code. The following will be posted on my homework page each day this month. Please explore these amazing and fun learning tools with your child, or encourage him or her to explore them.

HOUR OF CODE FUN:

Did you know the Hour of Code is here!?! You might be thinking, "What is the Hour of Code?" Hour of Code is an initiative to get students to spend (at least) an hour of time learning to program, as part of a national event during the month of December.

If you want to learn more about it, watch this video. Then come back here and check out the links below to see some of the offerings at Code.org and Khan Academy. Maybe you could even start coding this weekend! You do not have to wait until next week to get started. And who knows, once you start, maybe you will want to code forever.

Hour of Code at Code.org

Khan Academy Hour of Code Offerings are below:

  • Drawing with code: Learn to program using JavaScript, one of the world's most popular programming languages.

  • Creating webpages: Learn to make your own webpages using the basics of HTML and CSS.

  • Creating SQL databases: Learn the fundamentals of databases using SQL to create data tables and query the data.

The WHS Student Help Desk has put together a webpage to help teachers and students with recommendations from our WHS students. Please find it below. Happy coding!

"Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path."

"There are currently 517,393 open computing jobs nationwide.Last year, only 42,969 computer science students graduated into the workforce."

11/28/16
The first bi-weekly voluntary (non-building mandated) progress report went home on the 23rd. On the 18th, I announced this would be the case. Please ask your child to see it if you have not yet done so. Please set up a schedule with your child to make up any missing work. If your child had no missing work, YAY, and carry on. :)

11/21/16
Corrected SD Unit Test sent home today. This was the final assessment grade for Term 1. This 4 page, 2 day test was completed by the final student on November 3rd. Ten school days post the final student completing a test is a bit longer than I usually like to take to return exams, but this was a big one that also involved checking two drawn polygons with specific angle measures and side lengths for each student in each of my four classes. As you may know, I do also like to include correct answers and explanations and notes where needed. Unfortunately, I was also grading Flag Projects and a short quiz as well. A perfect storm trifecta of correcting. All set now! Thanks for your patience in knowing I am working hard to serve your children.

11/18/16

  • Corrected SD Inv 2 ACE 19 & 20, which counted as a quiz grade for Term 1, was sent home today

  • Corrected SD Unit Flag Project, which counted as a test grace for Term 1, was sent home today

  • Term 2 Report Cards will be sent home next Tuesday the 22nd.

  • The first Term 2 Math Bi-Weekly Progress Report will be sent home on Wednesday the 23rd

10/28/16
The last bi-weekly report of the first term was sent home today. The next report you receive for math will be the Term 1 Report Card. The term ends on Friday, November 10th. All missing work MUST BE SUBMITTED by 2:10 that day for partial credit. Otherwise, zeros will remain.

10/20/16
Corrected SD Inv 2 Take Home Quiz was returned and reviewed with my Extended Math Class (A47B1) today. It is in the QTPP section of each student's binder. Please ask to see it. My three other classes will be receiving them tomorrow.

10/15/16
Building mandated Progress Reports were sent home yesterday and are due back signed on Monday. Also, students have a take home quiz to complete this weekend. They can use their binder, my site, a protractor, and/ or a ruler to complete this quiz. However, they cannot work with anyone else, or get help from anyone. That would be cheating. Yes, no one may ever know, except the student and the person helping them, but their character is worth so much more than a grade on a 7th grade math quiz. Remember, what we do when no one is looking is who we truly are. Our actions determine our character. I am trusting students choose to be a people of strong ethics and moral character. :)

10/11/16
Corrected SD Check Up 1 Quiz was returned and reviewed in class today. Your child has it in his or her Quiz/Test/Presentation/Project section of the math binder.

10/7/16
Bi-weekly reports went home today. Ask your child to see hers/his. If there are any missing assignments, please set aside time this weekend for them to be completed and turned in on Tuesday.

10/4/16
School pictures have arrived! They will be sent home tomorrow. I saw a few kids with them in their hands after school today, but the majority should be receiving them tomorrow. Ask your child for the envelope and enjoy!

9/23/16
Finally! My first Missing Work/Progress Report was sent home and must be signed and returned on Monday. This report is not mandated by the school and is something I just do. I will do my best to send the report home every two weeks, and I will post here when they are sent home. They will not need to be signed each time. I am asking you to sign this time because it is the first one. Please do not expect this report from other cluster teachers unless they inform you one is being generated. Please encourage your child to make up any missing work and turn it in on Monday. Links to documents/assignments can be found on the calendar on the date one or two days prior to the date
on the report.

9/18/16
Still not done correcting unit readiness assignments and entering grades. Therefore, my first bi-weekly non-school mandated progress report will be sent home this Friday. Thank you for your patience. If you have reason to be concerned about your child's progress thus far and absolutely cannot wait until Friday, please email me, and I will be happy to let you know how your child has started the year.

9/15/16
Well the first 6 days have flown by, and we are about to make it 7 days. A couple of things...Students were assigned their Chromebooks in first period today. Yay! I will be sending home my first bi-weekly progress report tomorrow provided I am able to complete this week's data entry. It's been crazy busy around here and after school trying to keep up with the opening of the year activities and work. If I am unable to provide them tomorrow, I will do so on Monday and update the status here. (UPDATE: 10:20 pm MATH PROGRESS REPORT WILL GO HOME MONDAY.  Still getting caught up with grade entries and out of time. Have to stop working and get ready for bed.)

If you have not seen the Shapes and Designs Unit Family Letter or my Math Opening Letter. Please do so and ask your child why they were not shared with you. Please send back one copy of the signed slip from the opening letter and send me a note that you have read the unit letter and comment if you wish.
